What is Suedehead?
Suedehead is an online comic strip written and designed by Doryan Algarra. The strip focuses on the life of Suedehead, a self-professed geek with a very short temper. The strip follows him as he navigates life, friends and the internet.
What’s with the name Suedehead?
Suedehead means a couple of things. Suedehead was a subculture in the 1970’s in which men wore close-cropped hairstyles and were greatly influenced by West Indian (specifically Jamaican) rude boys and British mods, in terms of fashion, music and lifestyle. For more information see the Wikipedia page here. The comic itself has no relation to this definition.
Suedehead also is the name of a song by Morrissey that debuted in 1988. Morrissey and The Smiths happen to be my favorite bands. Once I had doodled what is now the character Suedehead, that name popped into my head and seemed to fit nicely.
How often do you update your comic?
There is a new comic strip every week. I aim at twice a week but the fates love to fight me on that…at the very least I churn out one per week.
Do you sell signed prints, posters or anything else?
I’m looking into this and have something in the works. Stay tuned.
